With graduation season right around the corner, we’re all looking for that perfect gift for the grads in our lives! I’ve put together a list of items that are both fun and practical and will prepare your high school grad for dorm life, college, and “the real world” (even though there’s no such thing according to John Mayer). Shop my gift guide, which includes a variety of prices!
Jesus Calling Book ($7.67)
If your graduate is Christian, this book is a must. I received it from a friend, and it’s truly an uplifting and wonderful book. When I arrived at my dorm, I saw that my roommate had the same book! We both read it daily and loved it. You can get it here at Amazon.
Towel Wrap ($12.99)
I got one of these for graduation, and they’re a life-saver in the dorms! It is a towel with an elastic top in order to cover up after a shower. There are so many cute designs available at target, and they’re only $12.99! It’s a fun and practical gift for any girl that is heading into dorm life. Find a variety of designs and colors online at Target.
10-ft iPhone Charger ($13.99)
Okay– are the iPhone chargers ever long enough? No. It gets even worse in the dorms when your bed is lofted. It’s nearly impossible to charge your phone from bed. Any grad would totally appreciate an extra-long iPhone charger! I suggest this one from Amazon.
Garment Steamer ($18.99)
My roommate had one of the these during my freshman year and it saved my butt from wearing wrinkly clothes on a variety of occasions. Our dorm did not have an ironing board, as it would take up a ton of space. This hand-held steamer is convenient, easy to store, and super helpful! I found this one on Amazon.
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment ($24)
Okay, I know what you’re thinking: $24 for a tinted chapstick?! And I’m here to say, DO IT. This is the best tinted chap stick ever, and it will add the perfect amount of color to your grad’s lips before early morning class. My personal favorite shade is “Honey”, but they’re all great. I use it all the time in place of lipstick at it’s a much more subtle look that keeps my lips hydrated all day! Get it here at Sephora.
ID Holder ($12) + Lanyard ($12)
Your new graduate will need their student ID with them all the time on campus! I got an ID holder and lanyard freshman year and it was a life-saver. It’s great to have your student ID, dorm keys, and car keys all in one place. I would highly suggest these super cute ones from Vera Bradley, which offers a variety of colors and patterns! My personal favorite is “Cuban Stamps”. Find the ID holders here and the lanyards here.
Essential Oil Diffuser ($27.99)
Most dorms don’t allow candles, so an essential oil diffuser is great to fill the dorm room with lovely scents! It’s relaxing and I love to diffuse oils while I work on homework. You can find a variety of diffusers on Amazon. Oils can be purchased at several different locations including Natural Grocers, Whole Foods, Amazon, Target, and many more retail and online stores. One of the most popular scents is Lavender, but I really enjoy Peppermint and Rose as well!
Urban Outfitters Laundry Bag ($34)
With this bag, your grad can bring their dirty clothes home in style! This is an extremely practical gift- and it’s cute too. Find it at Urban Outfitters.
S’Well Water Bottle ($35)
This water bottle keeps liquids cold for 24 hours and hot for 12 hours. It’s a perfectly practical gift for a graduate so that they can stay hydrated on campus! Oh, and did I mention that they’re super cute? My personal favorite design is “Opal Marble”. You can get them on their website, S’Well.
Leather Wallet ($100)
What girl wouldn’t love a designer wallet? It’s practical, cute, and so fun to receive! I picked this floral beauty from Kate Spade, but this is a gift that will have to be tailored to the style of your grad. You can shop my pick here at Macy’s.
Daniel Wellington Watch ($199)
This watch is simplistic, practical, and high-quality. I love the leather band- and I feel as though just about any grad would! Find it on the Daniel Wellington website.
Duluth Pack Standard Laptop Daypack ($280)
Given the price, this would need to be for a very special graduate in your life! However, I am here to say that they would have their pack for the rest of the their lives and it would never be worn out. All of the Duluth Packs are cute, practical, and would be loved for years to come. Check out their standard laptop daypack here.
